When it comes to training legs, heavy squats should be the foundation of your program. Everything else is assistance exercise, intended to improve your squat and hit the areas of the leg neglecting by squatting. For my own leg training I favour a simple approach. Squats, followed by three assistance movements. This arrangement has helped me gain lots of strength, and I've recommended it to many clients with great results.
